Google Drive Sync
Sync your SpudSuite data to Google Drive. Your notes go to your storage — we never see them.
Setting Up
You can connect Google Drive in several ways:
- From the sync prompt: SpudSuite will ask you to connect after 12 hours of use. Click "Connect Google Drive" in the prompt.
- From Settings: Go to Settings, find Cloud Sync, and click Connect.
- From the account menu: Click the account icon (top-right), then Settings.
- Click Connect Google Drive
- Sign in to your Google account in the popup window
- Authorize SpudSuite (we only request app folder access)
Sync starts automatically once connected. SpudSuite uses OAuth2 for authentication — your Google password is never shared with us. Your account avatar will appear in the top-right corner once connected.
SpudSuite uses Google's "App Data" folder. We can only access files we create — we cannot see your other Drive files, documents, or photos.
What Gets Synced
- All notes and folders
- Todos and todo lists
- Kanban boards and cards
- Projects and associations
- Tags and labels
- Settings and preferences
Where is My Data?
SpudSuite stores data in Google Drive's hidden App Data folder. This folder is:
- Not visible in the normal Drive interface
- Only accessible by SpudSuite
- Counted against your Drive storage quota
To see or manage this data, go to Google Drive Settings then "Manage Apps" then SpudSuite then "Options".
Sync Status
Check sync status in the app:
- Green checkmark: Synced and up to date
- Spinning arrow: Syncing in progress
- Yellow warning: Sync issue (see troubleshooting below)
- Offline icon: No internet connection
Click the sync icon to force a manual sync.
Multiple Devices
Use SpudSuite on as many devices as you want:
- Install SpudSuite on each device
- Connect the same Google account on each
- Your data syncs automatically across all devices
Disconnecting
To stop syncing:
- Go to Settings
- Click Disconnect on the Google Drive section
Your local data stays intact. Your cloud data stays in Google Drive.
To fully remove SpudSuite's access to your Google account:
- Go to Google Account Permissions
- Find SpudSuite
- Click "Remove Access"
Troubleshooting
Sync not working?
- Check your internet connection
- Try disconnecting and reconnecting Google Drive
- Make sure you have Google Drive storage space available
"Access denied" error?
This usually means the OAuth token expired. Disconnect and reconnect to refresh it.
Conflicts?
If you edit the same note on two devices before they sync, you'll see a conflict banner. Click it to choose which version to keep.
Slow sync?
First sync can take a minute if you have lots of notes. After that, only changes are synced (much faster).
