Dropbox Sync
Sync your SpudSuite data to Dropbox. Your notes stay in your Dropbox account — we never see them.
Setting Up
You can connect Dropbox in several ways:
- From the sync prompt: SpudSuite will ask you to connect after 12 hours of use. Click "Connect Dropbox" in the prompt.
- From Settings: Go to Settings, find Cloud Sync, and click Connect Dropbox.
- From the account menu: Click the account icon (top-right), then Settings.
- Click Connect Dropbox
- Sign in to your Dropbox account
- Authorize SpudSuite to access its app folder
- You'll be redirected back to SpudSuite — done!
No app keys or manual configuration needed. Sync starts automatically once connected. SpudSuite uses OAuth2 with PKCE for secure authentication — your Dropbox password is never shared with us.
SpudSuite only has access to its own app folder within Dropbox (/Apps/SpudSuite/). We cannot see your other Dropbox files, photos, or documents.
What Gets Synced
- All notes and folders
- Todos and todo lists
- Kanban boards and cards
- Projects and associations
- Tags and labels
- Settings and preferences
Where is My Data?
SpudSuite creates a folder at /Apps/SpudSuite/ in your Dropbox. This folder:
- Is visible in your Dropbox under the "Apps" folder
- Contains your data as JSON files
- Counts against your Dropbox storage quota
- Can be browsed directly if you want to see the raw files
Sync Status
Check sync status in the app:
- Green checkmark: Synced and up to date
- Spinning arrow: Syncing in progress
- Yellow warning: Sync issue (see troubleshooting below)
- Offline icon: No internet connection
Click the sync icon to force a manual sync at any time.
Multiple Devices
Use SpudSuite on as many devices as you want:
- Install SpudSuite on each device
- Connect the same Dropbox account on each
- Your data syncs automatically across all devices
Disconnecting
To stop syncing:
- Go to Settings
- Click Disconnect on the Dropbox section
Your local data stays intact. Your cloud data stays in Dropbox.
To fully remove SpudSuite's access to your Dropbox account:
- Go to Dropbox Connected Apps
- Find SpudSuite
- Click "Disconnect"
Troubleshooting
Sync not working?
- Check your internet connection
- Try disconnecting and reconnecting Dropbox
- Make sure you have Dropbox storage space available
"Access denied" or "Token expired"?
OAuth tokens can expire. Fix it by disconnecting and reconnecting Dropbox in Settings.
Pop-up blocked?
The Dropbox authorization window may be blocked by your browser. Allow pop-ups for spudsuite.com and try again.
Slow sync?
The first sync takes longer as all your data uploads. After that, only changes are synced, which is much faster.
